A Harvest Dessert Tea with Jane Kirkpatrick

September 10, 2010

2:00 to 3:30 pm

If you have visited Newell House for one of these sumptuous teas in the past, you won't want to miss this one.  Wonderful scones, clotted cream, jams and lemon curd, plus fresh fruit followed up by an amazing array of sweet dessert delights!  AND this is only the tasty part of the tea, the warmth and insights of Jane Kirkpatrick will be by far the best part of the afternoon.

Enjoy the opportunity to not only meet Jane, but to visit with her and ask questions about her historical fiction novels and plans for future books.  Be sure and bring any books you may already have that you would like autographed and be ready to purchase books you have not had the opportunity to read.

This flavorful and insightful afternoon is available to you by prepaid reservation only.  We just received the date from Jane a short while ago and are quickly filling up.  So call NOW!

If you would like to attend, please call or email Judy Van Atta at the Newell House Museum at 503-678-5537 or Judy Van Atta  .

We look forward to sharing this wonderful event with you!

Reservations have been closed - call to be placed on the wait list.

Harvest Dinner at Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin

November 20, 2010 2p pm - 5 pm

Have you often wondered what it may have been like to sit down with friends from the town or surrounding farms in the mid 1800's at the end of Harvest to celebrate the season the the bounty? The national holiday of Thanksgiving was set by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, but celebrations of thanks were common for many years before and even lobbied for by Mrs. Sarah Joseph Hale as early as 1827.

Join us for an old fashioned family style Harvest (AKA Thanksgiving Dinner) at the Pioneer Mother's Memorial Cabin on November 20, 2010 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Enjoy the music of Heartstrings and be prepared to dance to the tunes of the mid 1800's.

For more information call Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin at 503-678-5537 or Judy Van Atta .
Tickets are also available for sale from Champoeg Building and Grounds members and at the Pioneer Mother's Memorial Cabin or Newell House, or by contacting the number listed above. This event is by advance reservation only.

If you have ever thought you would love to have Thanksgiving dinner without cooking, this is your opportunity to sit back and enjoy the food, the music and the conversation with your friends and neighbors from all over Oregon!

Tickets are $25.00 per person and include the cost of parking for Champoeg State Heritage Area.

We have started taking reservations and have a limited number of spaces available.  If you would like to attend call for your reservations early!

Cost of this tea is $25.00 per person and includes gratuity.  For more information and to make your prepaid reservations, please contact Judy Van Atta (503) 678-5537.

We have started to take reservations.  If you would like to attend on Saturday, please get your reservations in now!  Once Saturday is full, we will open the Friday reservations.

Saturday, December 11, 2010- Candlelight Tour

Newell House will be celebrating it's third annual Candlelight Tour this December 11th.  It is quickly becoming one of the most popular events we hold.

Step back in time as you enter the property along the brick pathway with candles lighting your way to the front door.  Then as you step inside the home of Robert and Rebecca Newell feel the warmth of the holidays surround you.

Living history interpreters occupy the rooms and talk of days long ago while preparing for the annual Christmas festivities.  Join them around the piano as they sing Christmas Carols, then head to the kitchen for a cup of hot apple cider and a fresh baked cookie.

Oregon State Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapters decorate the house and fill it full of Christmas Cheer!  They ask that you vote on your favorite while attending this event.

Come to Champoeg and usher in the Christmas Season at Newell House!   You will be happy you did!  This is not an event you will want to miss!

Entrance to this event is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for Seniors, AAA and DAR members and $2.00 for children 12 and under.
