Saturday, December 3, 2011- Candlelight Tour
4:30 - 6:30 PM

Newell House will be celebrating its fourth annual Candlelight Tour this December 3rd.  It is quickly becoming one of the most popular events we hold.

Step back in time as you enter the property along the brick pathway with candles lighting your way to the front door.  Then as you step inside the home of Robert and Rebecca Newell feel the warmth of the holidays surround you.

Living history interpreters occupy the rooms and talk of days long ago while preparing for the annual Christmas festivities.  Join them around the piano as they sing Christmas Carols, then head to the kitchen for a cup of hot apple cider and a fresh baked cookie.

Oregon State Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapters decorate the house and the Butteville Schoolhouse and fill them full of Christmas Cheer!  They ask that you vote on your favorite room while attending this event.

Come to Champoeg and usher in the Christmas Season at Newell House!   You will be happy you did! This is not an event you will want to miss!

Entrance to this event is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for Seniors, AAA and DAR members and $2.00 for children 12 and under.

Pioneer Settlement Camps for 2012
June 18 - 21 and June 25 - 28

Champoeg DAR Museums 2011 Pioneer Settlement Camp was a huge success and we are already planning for our two camps for 2012.  If you are a student who will be entering 4th thru 6th grades in the fall of 2012 and love history, you won't want to miss this camp!

You will spend four days learning about pioneer life; packing items in a space the size of a typical wagon crossing the continent; learning how pioneers settled in as farmers and how it compared to the original farmers of Champoeg the Kalapuyas; experiencing through demonstration early Oregon government and how it was established; spend a day in a one room shcool house learning as your great, great grandparents may have learned; hike through early Oregon history and experience the foods of the day and share them with your family.

Camp hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.  Thursday of camp week is Rendezvous day with parents and siblings invited to experience music, dance and food with their campers!

Registration is $150.  An early registration discount of $25 applies to all students registered by June 1st.  Financial assistance may be available, contact  Judy Van Atta for more details.

For more information contact Judy Van Atta at (503) 678-5537.

Blues, Brews and Chili Cook-Off
October 13, 2012 - 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Whether you love to eat chili or cook chili, this event is for you!  If you love to cook, enter your chili in the cook off and have the opportunity to win one of several great prizes!  Contact  Judy Van Atta for more information on entry as a contestant.  If you love to eat chili, come eat and help decide whose chili is the best!  Your $8.00 gives you a generous taste of each entry, along with corn bread and salad - then vote for the best chili you tasted!  Wash it all down with a brew (available for purchase) and enjoy the blues by a popular local artist. This should be an afternoon of great fun and interesting taste as cooks from the Willamette Valley vie for the title of People's Choice.

Cost of this event is only $8.00 per person.  For more information or to enter as a cook, please contact Judy Van Atta (503) 678-5537.

Harvest Dinner at Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin
November 17, 2012 - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Have you often wondered what it may have been like to sit down with friends from the town or surrounding farms in the mid 1800's at the end of Harvest to celebrate the season and the bounty it provided? The national holiday of Thanksgiving was set by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, but celebrations of thanks were common for many years before and even lobbied for by Mrs. Sarah Joseph Hale as early as 1827. Harvest Dinner

Join us for an old fashioned family style Harvest (AKA Thanksgiving Dinner) at the Pioneer Mother's Memorial Cabin on November 17, 2012 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

For more information call Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin at 503-678-5537 or Judy Van Atta

Tickets are also available at the Pioneer Mother's Memorial Cabin or Newell House, or by contacting the number listed above. This event is by advance reservation only and seating is limited

If you have ever thought you would love to have Thanksgiving dinner without cooking, this is your opportunity to sit back and enjoy the food, the music and the conversation with your friends and neighbors from all over Oregon!

Tickets are $30.00 per person.

This event has become so popular we want to let you know about it in advance.  Seating will be limited next year to 40 people.  If you would like to be a part of this new annual tradition, please get your name on the reservation list early.  Once on the reservation list, tickets must be paid for by November 1, 2012 to continue to hold the reservation.
